The city of canals, Venice is Italy’s capital of romance. Casanova’s city, where better to woo a prospective partner than among the dreamy canals, gently arching bridges and crumbling, charismatic palazzos where the noble families still remain. Among the glamorous carnivals, star-studded film festival and glittering balls, you’ll find third or fourth generation Venetians still enjoying their afternoon bacari in a dimly lit bar.

When to travel
The city of Venice floats on a web of canals and is therefore subject to high humidity year-round. The summer heat can be quite oppressive, and you may wish to avoid the ‘acqua alta’ floods, which usually occur in November and December. Otherwise, Venice is a popular destination at any time of the year.
WEATHER: Appropriately called the ‘city of water’ and not just for its canals, northerly Venice has cold, wet winters and hot, humid summers.
