The most famous stretch of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, the Riviera Maya is home to some of Mexico’s finest hotels and most incredible beaches. In the south, relaxed Tulum is home to laid-back beach shacks and yoga retreats, as well as some of the region’s most atmospheric Maya ruins, perched above a white sandy beach. Further north is the lively resort town of Playa del Carmen, while further north still is the exclusive enclave of Mayakoba, where the area’s best hotels are located. Staying on the Riviera Maya gives the best access to Mexico’s famous Caribbean beaches, with all the sights of the Yucatan Peninsula within easy reach.
