The rain forested, mountainous island of Phuket in the Andaman Sea is Thailand’s largest island, home to some of the country’s best beaches, dramatic karst scenery and diving sites. At 49 kilometres long it rarely feels like an island and if you head inland you won’t feel like you’re surrounded by water. The ‘pearl of the Andaman’, as she is known, has plenty of cultural towns, but Patong is where to go when you want to enjoy the flamboyant Thai nightlife. And remember – the ‘h’ is silent.
