Turkey’s coast is also home to many treasures. Its beach resorts along the coast of Bodrum are replete with ancient ruins and stunning sandy beaches, where you can relax during the day and enjoy buzzing nights out in its exciting towns. The Aegean Sea laps against the beaches; with its glass-clear waters and warm currents it’s ideal for diving and snorkelling. You’ll spot plenty of fish and it’s a refreshing way to cool off from the country’s summer sun. Home once labelled the region the ‘land of the eternal blue’, and looking out across the coast’s endless vista where sea meets sky, you can see why.
There’s more to see besides the beaches though. All along the coast you’ll find ancient monuments like the Temple of Apollo, Troy and Bodrum’s medieval castle. There’s also the staggering beauty of Ephesus, which stands regal and commanding despite its great age. In the towns you’ll find busy little bazaars where you can pick up buttery-soft leather goods like slippers and bags, airy lengths of cotton and clothes to take home with you, towering piles of spices and all manner of souvenirs.
