The Gritti Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Venice
Venice
OVERVIEW
Could there be a more atmospheric location in Venice? A former Doge’s palace, The Gritti Palace occupies one of the most visually arresting locations along the banks of the Grand Canal. The 15th-century palazzo is everything you’d expect from such a residence in dreamy Venice; recently restored to its full, former glory, it’s a veritable education in Venetian history and splendour.
Occupying a peaceful courtyard away from the bustling calli trodden by tourists and residents alike, yet with an enviable location on the Grand Canal, the noble Gritti family’s former home has been reimagined as a luxury hotel which now you can enjoy. In a past life the hotel once welcomed monarchs and royalty, heads of state and notable public figures, who slept soundly among the find art, antiques and glorious detailing that adorns the public and private rooms.
Renewed Venetian style draws on the elegance of the past and the innovation of the modern day to bring an exceptionally intimate and reassuringly familiar feel. Known for its glamour, impeccable service, culinary expertise and excellent connections to some of Venice’s most renowned events – think Biennale, Carnivale and the Film Festival – a stay under the original wooden ceilings amid the hand-made Murano glass is the epitome of chic and an experience not to be missed.

When to travel
The city of Venice floats on a web of canals and is therefore subject to high humidity year-round. The summer heat can be quite oppressive, and you may wish to avoid the ‘acqua alta’ floods, which usually occur in November and December. Otherwise, Venice is a popular destination at any time of the year.
WEATHER: Appropriately called the ‘city of water’ and not just for its canals, northerly Venice has cold, wet winters and hot, humid summers.
