St. Regis Rome
Rome
OVERVIEW
Opulent and palatial, the St. Regis Rome was opened by Carlo Ritz in 1894 and has been a beacon for excellent service and exquisite interiors ever since. This Old World glamour is something that Rome does very well – the Eternal City is known for its history, after all. The St. Regis fits in perfectly here, peering down from the crest of the Quirinal Hill and equidistant to the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and the flagship stores of many of Italy’s great luxury brands.
The hotel’s central location, as well as its butler service, means it is a firm favourite among discerning visitors including royalty, heads of state and film stars. On entry you’ll be swept up in the glamour of the St. Regis, slipping into the marble portico of Piazza della Repubblica into a grand salon decorated in a curated collection of fine art, antiques, ceilings dripping with Murano glass chandeliers and a stucco-embellished staircase.

What and Where to Eat
St. Regis is steeped in tradition and you’ll find interesting Roman twists when it comes to food and drink. It was in 1934 that Fernand Petiot created the ‘red snapper’ drink, later to become the world famous Bloody Mary. At St. Regis Rome you’ll find it is served with a Mediterranean twist with Italian hot pepper and a dash of olive oil. Get your cameras ready for the hotel’s Champagne and Sabering Ritual at Caelum Lounge & Bar where the top of the bottle is literally sliced off with a sabre, done with a lot of pomp and ceremony.

When to travel
The Eternal City can be visited year-round; if you’re not fussed about sun, it’s best to visit in the off or shoulder season (October to March). From early spring until autumn the city smoulders and is crowded with tourists, but this is when you’ll find the best exhibitions and street festivals, alfresco dining and a lively atmosphere.
WEATHER: Hot in summer, mild in the autumn and winter, Rome is a year-round destination ideal for short breaks.
