Rosewood Mayakoba
Riviera Maya
OVERVIEW
Opened in 2008, Rosewood Mayakoba is a firmly established hotel on the Riviera Maya. So committed was the resort to blending into the surroundings, even from the day it opened it complemented, rather than contrasted with its lagoon-side setting. Use of natural materials like stone and wood and neutral décor let the landscape do the talking, and floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding glass walls make the most of the views. The all-suite accommodation – plus a handful of indulgent villas – features private plunge pools with expansive terraces, rooftop viewing platforms that overlook the lagoon and mangroves and outdoor rainfall showers.
The hotel doesn’t skimp on the luxury facilities, however, and even the 18-hole golf course is designed to blend in with the Yucatan jungle. The spa is set on its out island in the centre of a cenote, with 12 cosy treatment cabanas available for treatments that can be tailored to each person; you’ll be asked how you want to ‘feel’ at the end of your treatment, and will be guided on your choices based on your answer.
As well as the restful activities in spa, you can indulge in your favourite watersports at the beach. The hotel has kayaks, paddle boards, hobie cats and snorkelling equipment to hire, or you can simply wade out into the warm Caribbean waters and take a dip in the turquoise sea.
