Rocco Forte Hotel de Russie
Rome
OVERVIEW
In the time-worn backstreets of Rome’s most glamorous part of the Centro Storico, the old centre, you’ll stumble across the grand façade of the elegant Rocco Forte Hotel de Russie. The truncated horseshoe-shaped building occupies a prime piece of real estate in the Eternal City, an easy walk from Piazza del Popolo and the Spanish Steps, with Flaminio Metro station just 350 yards from the hotel and the designer stores of Via Condotti staggering distance – depending on how laden down with bags you are.
The Hotel de Russie encompasses everything that is great and good about Italian hospitality. As part of the Rocco Forte group, the hotel is family owned, family designed, family run. Striking design and contemporary furnishings make the hotel feel up to date, but there are plenty of touches that stay true to the history of the city. Many of the rooms overlook the dreamy skyline of domes and spires or Piazza del Popolo, with its historic sights and restaurants – we recommend Da Bolognese for a traditional meal nearby.
The best views, however, have to be over the hotel’s not-so secret garden. The terrace restaurant of Le Jardin de Russie is ideal for lunch or for a relaxed aperitivo hour, but as the sun sets the place to see (and be seen) is the top garden, which feels like a hidden corner of the city. Book one of the alcoves for a private dinner and you’ll feel like the only souls around.

What to do
Explore Rome on foot, by bike or, for a true Italian experience, in a vintage Fiat 500. Make a wish as you throw a coin in the Trevi Fountain, release your inner gladiator with a tour of the Coliseum or take in the sheer beauty of the Sistine Chapel on a private tour. Vatican City is well worth a visit and, if you are feeling energetic, the climb to the top of St Peter’s Basilica is rewarded with incredible views across the Eternal City.

What and Where to Eat
With its central location in the heart of the Eternal City, there are plentiful restaurants and bars within walking distance of the hotel. To celebrate that special occasion we recommend booking one of the private dining rooms or, if the weather is warm enough, a private area in the secret garden of Le Jardin de Russie where chef Fulvio Pierangelini will create a bespoke menu for you.

When to travel
The Eternal City can be visited year-round; if you’re not fussed about sun, it’s best to visit in the off or shoulder season (October to March). From early spring until autumn the city smoulders and is crowded with tourists, but this is when you’ll find the best exhibitions and street festivals, alfresco dining and a lively atmosphere.
WEATHER: Hot in summer, mild in the autumn and winter, Rome is a year-round destination ideal for short breaks.
