Castello guests also have their own restaurant in the garden, Cavalieri, set within the hotel itself. Here you’ll find sumptuous breakfasts and in the evening an extensive buffet and cooking that demonstrates the best of Sardinian cuisine. Where to stay
Despite being a ‘hotel in a hotel’, Il Castello still offers nine different room categories to suit all setups. There’s a choice of ‘mare’ rooms which have views facing the sea, or garden views. Balconies are spacious and some are outfitted with furniture for relaxing in the sun. What to do
The hotel was renovated in 2016 which has improved both rooms and facilities. As well as a private pool just for the use of five-star property residents, there’s a beautiful beach with stunning views across the lapping waters of the Mediterranean. There are plentiful organised activities on offer, including exploring the region on horseback or by quad bike – though there’s always the option to treat yourself to a few hours of relaxation in the Thalasso del Forte spa.

What and Where to Eat
Cavalieri is the dedicated restaurant for guests of Il Castello; breakfasts are served here, as well as a nightly extensive buffet and show cooking on the barbecue grill, pasta dishes and charcuteries. There are an additional four main restaurants that are normally included as per the hotel’s board basis. You can pay a supplement to dine at the other restaurants, which include Gordon Ramsay Hell’s Kitchen, Forte Gourmet and La Cantina del Forte. There’s also a children’s restaurant and two simple snack bars, so all ages and dietary requirements are catered for.

When to travel
During August, Sardinia is filled with Italian holidaymakers and tourists seeking its hot sun and white sand beaches. May and June offer pleasant temperatures and clear skies, while September sees warm sees and a calm descend on the island. Most resorts are closed from late autumn until Easter.
