Grand Hotel Tremezzo
The Lakes
OVERVIEW
Lake Como is the setting for the Grand Hotel Tremezzo, one of the most beautiful regions in northern Italy. Like a great palace rising from the banks of the river, the grand hotel – in name and nature – makes the most of its position on the lake with enormous bow windows in the rooms, terraces with lake and garden views and a floating swimming pool.
The Art Nouveau interiors are reminiscent of the golden age of travel, and the magnificent gardens of 17th-century Villa Carlotta are but a stone’s throw away, so exploring is a breeze. The lake is the highlight of the hotel’s location, divided from the entrance by a lakeside road that sees all manner of glamorous traffic. You can relax on the pontoon of the floating pool or head to the secluded gardens at the back of the hotel where a second swimming pool awaits.
Milan and the other lakes aren’t far at all so if you’re looking to embark on a grand tour of Italy’s northern gems you’d find a perfect Lake Como base at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo. It’s a relaxing retreat where modern life hasn’t seemed to impede too strongly, so expect lavishly-appointed fabrics and antiques – the hotel has been recently refurbished but has kept true to its early 20th century beginnings.

As you would expect, many of the activities at Grand Hotel Tremezzo focus on the lake. Ruy and Batt are two Venetian motorboats which can be hired privately to explore the lake and its surrounding villages. We love Bellagio where you can wander through the narrow streets seeing artisans at work. For a different perspective, take to the skies on a seaplane adventure which can take you over Lake Como, Lugano and Maggiore.
