Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat, A Four Seasons Hotel

OVERVIEW

Slip behind the manicured walls of the Hotel du Cap-Ferrat and you’d find it hard to believe that this rural idyll is a mere half an hour from Monaco and Nice and less than an hour from the glittering glamour of Cannes. This is the charm of the hotel; despite being cossetted in a world of relaxed luxury, all the sights of the French Riviera are easily accessible.

The hotel is the ultimate French Riviera destination, where the luminous sunlight, beautiful, unspoilt landscapes and dazzling views of the sea combine to create a romantic spot that welcomes everyone from celebrities to your great grandmother – this hotel has history. For more than a century the peninsula of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat has been nurtured into a beautifully landscaped paradise, bringing the utmost elegance to one of the world’s most glamorous locations.

In 2009 the hotel was extensively refurbished to include a new wing, a spa and indoor swimming pool, plus works to the gardens and interiors of the existing property. The developments have been kind to the local area, adding rather than detracting from the natural beauty.

Our highlight

As a Four Seasons property, the Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat offers the signature ‘extraordinary experiences’. Take the chance to dine in a work of art by Jean Cocteau at Villa Santa Sospir, with a private tour guided by the former caretaker of the glamorous socialite owner, Francine Weisweiller.

Where to stay

Decorated in muted tones to reflect the whitewashed walls of the grand villas of the French Riviera, each of the rooms and suites is full of natural light. Views look out over the sea, hillside or pine groves and gardens – an inland view isn’t such a bad thing when the rooms are this sheltered and the gardens so beautiful. All rooms and suites feature fine furnishings, spacious bathrooms and luxurious Hermès amenities.

What to do

There’s plenty to do at the Four Seasons to keep you occupied – from swimming lessons with a celebrity instructor to meandering around the jogging trail or surrendering yourself to a day of relaxation in the spa – but should you want to head out and explore the coast, Monaco and Nice can be reached in 30 minutes (less in a helicopter) and Cannes is just an hours’ drive. The hotel can organise a car and driver if you don’t have your own transport.
