Gaya Island Resort

Borneo

OVERVIEW

Located just off the coast of Borneo, Gaya Island Resort is a nature lover’s haven that also happens to be a beautiful resort, hemmed in from an unspoilt coral reef by a beautiful beach. The resort is dedicated to conservation and ecologically-sound tourism, and you can explore the area in depth with resident naturalist, Justin Juhun. Engaging with the resort’s local wildlife is firmly encouraged, so you could find yourself spotting the ginger backs of orangutan swinging through the trees, Borneo pygmy elephants, gibbons or langurs – all of which Justin has nurtured during his tenure.

The island is home to the long-nosed proboscis monkeys, giant flying squirrels, bearded pigs and a huge array of birdlife and amazing plants; the resort’s nature walks offer the chance to observe the wildlife in their natural habitat. Under water you could explore the clear shores surrounding the beautiful islands of Mamutik and Sapi, guided by a resident marine biologist who will teach you about the different types of hard and soft coral.

Once you’ve acquainted yourself with the animals, you may like to enjoy Sabahan cooking classes, tours of Borneo, beach barbecues on a private stretch of sand or a spa treatment in the Spa Village. We love the sound of the Unduk Ngadau, including a scrub, hair masque, massage and facial using indigenous products over three houses.
