Amanyara
OVERVIEW
Aman resorts brings more than a hint of Asia to the West Indies with Amanyara. This sleek resort is on the western side of the island chain of Turks & Caicos, away from the developments of the east coast. In true Aman fashion, it’s set in a secluded spot on the edge of a marine national park. Deep turquoise waters and half a mile of virgin sands to relax on await. Designed to evoke peace and tranquillity, even its name is an indication of what to expect. ‘Aman’ is Sanskrit for peace, while ‘yara’ means ‘place’ in the language of the Arawak Amerindians, the first indigenous people of the region.
Chic as it may be, there are still plenty of opportunities for Caribbean adventures. Keen divers will be pleased to know that the waters surrounding Providenciales where Amanyara is situated, are teeming with marine life. You can see Hawksbill turtles, bonefish and the humpback whales which live among the vibrant coral reefs running parallel to the shores of the resort’s intensely private beach. Amanyara has its own PADI-accredited dive centre too, or you could also make the most of the breezes that cool Long Bay Beach. Borrow a kayak or catamaran to explore the coast, or perhaps try kiteboarding or water-skiing.
If you’re after adventure but prefer to stay on dry land, take an exploratory safari through the tropical forests and coastal ecosystem to gain a keener insight into life in paradise. You may even get to meet some of the hundreds of species of migratory birds that rest here during their lengthy travels. Well, if you had the choice, wouldn’t you do the same?
