Amanjena

OVERVIEW

Offering near catatonic-like levels of zen, fans of swish minimalism will adore Aman’s Marrakech resort, Amanjena. The resort’s three pillars of success lie in its exceptional service, romantic dining and killer views of the Atlas Mountains. It’s not central, but why stay in the chaotic centre of the city when you can enjoy the peace of the countryside? 12 kilometres is hardly far if you want to pop to the city for shopping or sightseeing! Plus, the complimentary car service doesn’t hurt either.

Aman is famous for its discreet, stripped-back resorts and Amanjena is no different. Its name means ‘peaceful paradise’ in Sanskrit and Arabic. This is absolutely the way to describe this little enclave of meditative quiet. Architect Ed Tuttle has conjured up an Arabic fantasy of pared-down Moroccan opulence. Think grand rooms, luxe finishes and near-perfect symmetry. In keeping with the surroundings, the resort is fashioned from pink-hued stone. To many, it seems to glow from within as it basks in the sunlight.

Seek solace in the double-height lounges, library and fountain-adorned patios. All of these beautifully demonstrate Marrakech’s Moorish and Arabian heritage.

Where to stay

Amanjena’s Pavilion and Maisons are designed like little temples with Venetian domes lit up at night. Inside you’ll find acres of space and cherry wood furnishings. Large bathrooms include sunken, pillared baths (try out your best impression of Cleopatra), twin vanity units, dressing areas and added extras like branded Aman sunhats.

What to do

Lose yourself in the labyrinthine alleyways of Marrakech’s medina where you will be overwhelmed by colourful lanterns and lured by the smell of exotic spices. Visit the medina at least at once at night, where the storytellers gather amongst the entertainers as they have done for centuries. For more peaceful activities, then head to the mountains to explore the Berber communities whilst absorbing the incredible views of the Atlas Mountains.

What and Where to Eat

If you would rather not head into the city centre, you can choose to dine in either of Amanjena’s restaurants or take dinner in a multitude of locations around the hotel. Most guests enjoy the privacy of their private pavilion, the intimate caidal tent set in the olive groves or on the terrace. Light meals and snacks are also served poolside.
